Washington, D.C. – U. S. Rep. James A. Traficant, Jr. (D–OH) today issued the following statement regarding the simultaneous attacks made yesterday by the U.S. military against terrorist targets in Afghanistan and Sudan:
"Based on what I know at this time, I support these attacks. The United States needs to act decisively and swiftly against all those who carry out attacks against its citizens. It must be made clear to the world that there is no place to hide for those who commit acts of terror against the U.S.
I will continue to support U.S. strikes against confirmed terrorist threats to America. However, attacks of this nature should have a clear goal and be justified by the facts. I would hope that these attacks were based on clear evidence and good intelligence, and that the sole factor in launching the attacks was the protection of U.S. interests and citizens. In addition, appropriate consultation with the Congress should be made prior to any future planned U.S. military actions.
Finally, I have no doubt that the attacks were carried out with the highest level of professionalism, courage and dedication to duty on the part of our military.
