COLUMBIANA COUNTY GETS $193,500 ARC GRANT
Washington, D.C. – U. S. Rep. James A. Traficant, Jr. (D–OH) announced today that Columbiana County has been awarded a $193,500 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) for preparation of an industrial site for a plastics recycling processing plant. The plant will employ 31 persons, and at least half of those jobs will be reserved for persons with low or moderate incomes.
The grant will be used to demolish and remove several structures from a 22-acre site in Wellsville, as well as level and prepare the site. More than 20 million pounds of potentially land-filled, baled two-liter pop bottles will be converted into usable flake material at the plant. Employment at the plant is expected to increase to 75 persons over the next five years.
In addition to ARC funds, the state of Ohio will contribute $130,000 and local entities will provide $63,500, for a total project cost of $387,000.
