HUBBARD P.D. AND TRUMBULL COUNTY SHERIFF RECEIVE $217,425 IN FEDERAL COPS GRANTS
The Hubbard Township P.D. was awarded a $142,425 COPS grant to hire four additional part-time police officers engaged in community policing. The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department was awarded a COPS grant of $75,000 to hire one additional full-time deputy engaged in community policing. The grants will fund up to 75 percent of the total salary and benefits of each of the officers over the next three years. Funding will begin once the new officers have been hired or on the date of the award, whichever is later, and will be provided over the course of the grant.
In the last Congress, Traficant attached an amendment to a Justice Department appropriations bill requiring local police departments that receive COPS grants to show a net increase in the number of street cops. The Traficant amendment is now federal law.
