TRAFICANT: HOUSE MUST HOLD TO HIGH STANDARDS SET BY FOUNDING FATHERS
"Mr. Speaker, 168 years ago, Alexis de Tocqueville wrote ‘America is great because America is good; and when America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great.' How true that is.
Today's debate is not just about Bill Clinton. It's not just about the presidency. Today's debate is about America's greatness. The founding fathers fully recognized that by setting a much loftier and higher standard for the chief executive. They didn't write ‘high crimes and other felonies,' they wrote ‘high crimes and misdemeanors.'
Misdemeanors; a matter of truth and trust. The American people must be able to trust the President. From Wall Street to Social Security, from Main Street to Moscow, from the United Nations to China, the President must be trustworthy.
America is great because America is good. And we must hold to those high standards. I support the resolution."
